In Spain the Healthcare is very efficient and subject to personal circumstances, you will find it freely available due to the reciprocal arrangements within the EU. Healthcare is available to men and women of 65 years of age. (You may have to pay a contribution) For more details contact the Overseas Benefits office. – Tel +44 (0)191 2187547 If you are moving to Spain you can claim Medical Care just as if you are in the UK, however if you are a Pensioner you will need to obtain an S1 form from the Overseas Pension Centre +44 (0)1851 767172 and then be registered with your local medical centre, you will then be able to swap from the UK system to the Spanish System. Or as a casual visitor if you are a Pensioner and your stay is temporary, then you can get free prescriptions if you get a Pension Confirmation Certificate you can get a 3 month SIP card from your local medical centre. Mortgages are freely available. Residents and Non-residents a like can obtain mortgages with very little difficulty. Many leading international banks and former building societies now offer mortgage facilities on the purchase of Spanish homes, some are even UK Based. Currently (July 2011) Banks are asking 40% deposits.
